Projects
Here's just a small sampling of some of the nature-based activities & projects offered at Katydid workshops.
As a horticulturist and artist, I find the integration of art and nature to have an inherent, underlying invisible string connecting them. Katydid workshops often integrate creative elements, and encourage the exploration of inward creativity while learning how to mindfully connect to the natural world around us. Activities may range in difficulty/ability levels depending on the population at hand, and may include either passive or active involvement. Outdoor workshops are weather dependent - in the event of inclement weather, workshops will be moved to a secure indoor location or given a rain date.
Botanical Arts & Crafts
Using either found materials or pre-pressed materials, participants compose botanical creations of their own choosing. While this helps to strengthen motor skills and encourages mindfulness, botanical crafts are easily accessible to populations and ages of all types, making them a versatile activity option for even the most compromised individuals.
Sensory Workshops
With a focus on engaging the five senses, these workshops are designed to immerse participants in hands-on experiences with the natural world around them. Harvesting of plant materials for creative purposes allows participants to make artistic choices through a naturalistic lens, all the while further connecting with the natural environment around them.
Indoor sensory workshops (during winter or inclement weather) are also available.
